Gary Doidge was born in Birmingham and studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire with Beverley Davidson and Rosemary Sanderson. In 1988 he played in the Isis String Quartet which became the quartet in residence at the college and was successful in winning several chamber music prizes along with a Junior Fellowship.
Gary has been a freelance violist since 1988 and has worked with the C.B.S.O, Doyle Carte, Moscow Ballet and is the Principal Viola with Orchestra da Camera where he has also appeared in a solo capacity. He also directs several string orchestras, teaches, coaches chamber music and under his guidance a number of string quartets have been successful in reaching the finals of the National Chamber Music for Schools Competitions.
Gary joined the Voces Intimae Quartet in 1999, and plays on a Richardson Viola dated 1941.
